Hello! I’m so pleased that you’ve found your way to Autoimmune Adventures.
My name is Julie Stiles and I’m the creator and host of the podcast. My inspiration to start it came from my desire to continue to learn, to continue to challenge myself to say yes to the call to adventure of chronic illness, and to support others who are also walking the path of healing as a transformative process.
I have had chronic illness most of my life. I was diagnosed with asthma when I was a year and a half old. My autoimmune diagnosis (alopecia areata) came much later in my life, about 12 years ago. I had already spent time looking into alternative health due to my experience with the medical profession from having asthma. My experience with the autoimmune disease further confirmed for me how disempowering a diagnosis can be, and how important it was for me to continue to learn. I know my own experience pales in comparison to the stories of others with autoimmune disease, who may have gone years before being diagnosed and then are given treatment options that can be just as problematic as the disease itself. I have always appreciated the medical doctors I have worked with; I trust their intentions and their heart. I also believe that the Western medical model has limited use for those of us with systemic disorders, and that healing for us is more likely to come through an integral approach that takes into account all aspects of who we are.
Shortly after my diagnosis I started graduate school and got a Master’s degree in Consciousness Studies. My focus was on the process of transformation of consciousness. My research, thesis, and resulting book form the basis of the process I use when talking about healing as a transformative process—one that calls us to become ever more fully who we are.
I am also a Certified Health Coach and ThetaHealing® Practitioner. You can find out more at my website, juliestiles.com
